Here at Indie Reads we try to be as transparent as possible. That is why we wish to make our stance on the use of AI for book covers/art known, so that you can make the decision that is right for you.

We want to make it clear - We DO NOT encourage authors to use AI in their book cover design or book art. Our stance is one of tolerance, not one of condoning or advocating.  Still, the truth is that the use of AI is becoming harder and harder to detect, vett, or even extract ourselves from. As much as we would encourage everyone to use real artists wherever possible and would dissuade others from relying on AI whenever possible, we are not going to be the police and arbiters of this controversial issue. We simply do not have the time or resources to do it effectively, and it would be do more harm to make a hard stance against AI and, inevitably, fail to uphold that standard. With that said, we do not refuse authors who may have used AI-generated art or leverage AI tools for certain parts of their cover art. We are simply asking that they volunteer that information, so that we can make it known to our readers. You may not agree with this stance, and if not, then this platform may not be for you.

 

We hope you understand our position as well as the current realities of AI technology, but if you feel you cannot continue to use this platform because of our stance, we fully understand and respect your decision.
