In the Kingdom of Layruin, the lives of brothers Grath and Shay Wyvrin are forever altered when they cross swords with a band of crooked lawmen. Grath manages to elude capture but finds himself lost in the dreaded Weeping Woods. Exhausted and lacking supplies, he must adapt or die. Shay is taken prisoner by the lawmen and is tried for his alleged crimes. Shay's life is spared thanks to the intervention of a noble knight, but he is sentenced to military service and sent to the frontlines.
