A haunted house story of resilience, ‘What Lies Within’ by Tracey King is a quick page turner that is perfect for the spooky season! Lily is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her child and finds herself in a house with a demonic presence. The secrets of her past have dammed her and yet are the key to her salvation. King does an excellent job of creating characters and a world that keeps the reader immersed to the very last page.
3.5 starts. This was an emotional, dark, but fun quick read. Haunted houses, demons, witchcraft, it’s got a little bit of everything. I loved how empowered and determined the FMC was by the bittersweet end. There were some moments that dragged, to be honest I skimmed the journal entry chapter because it just went on and on. I am interested in seeing what happens in the next book though.
